Abstract

The knowledge of these syndromes is essential as they can influence the prognosis and management of periodontal disease. Syndromes associated with periodontium are a rare entity. Hence clinical diagnosis is very important. This case report is about turners syndromes with generalized aggressive periodontitis.

Abstract

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory condition, caused by bacteria, that leads to the destruction of supporting tissues around teeth, resulting ultimately in significant morbidity as a result of infection, pain and tooth loss. Curcumin, from the ischolar_main of the turmeric plant Curcuma longa, is an extended pseudo symmetric polyphenol. In recent years, in vitro and in vivo research has suggested that curcumin has anticarcinogenic, antiviral, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. The aim of this review is to systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy and anti inflammatory property of curcumin in periodontal disease. An electronic search was carried out using the keywords ‘curcumin’, ‘periodontal’ and ‘periodontitis’ via the PubMed/Medline, ISI Web of Science and Google Scholar databases for relevant articles published from 2009 to February 2019.

Abstract

Periodontitis is a multifactorial diseasewhich is definedas Inflammation of the supporting tissuesof the teeth. It causes progressively destructive changeleads to loss of alveolar bone and periodontal ligament. An extensionof inflammation from gingiva into the alveolar bone and periodontal ligament.Periodontal disease is bacterial host interface disease. One such factor which is thought to be of host modulating is RANK/ RANKL system. This review is about the periodontal panorama about the system which might be therapeutic modulation of periodontal disease.

Abstract

Stress is an association of physiological and psychological reactions of a person confronted to a change of situation he cannot face. The relationship between stress and any disease is explained by hormonal modifications and behavioural changes induced by the stress. Research has suggested that stress and depression are two factors that play a role inthe development and progression of periodontal disease. It is not clear, however, whether these factors lead to periodontal disease through physiological or behavioural changes, or by some combination of the two. The purpose of the present review article is to explore the associations between psychological factors, psycho immunologic variables, behaviour, and clinical measures of periodontal disease.

Abstract

The lipoxins include lipoxin A and lipoxin B.The appearance of these molecules signals the resolution of inflammation.Lipoxins are lipoxygenase derived eicosanoids and are generated from arachidonic acid.They are highly potent, possessing biologic activity at very low concentration, and inhibit neutrophil recruitment, chemotaxis, and adhesion.

Abstract

Compliment system is tradionally known as a cascade of anti microbial proteins in the blood. It is recognised as a key system for immune surveillance and homeostastis. It has a major link between the innate and the adaptative arms of the host immune response. They exist as pro enzymes and circulate as inactive forms. On activation, they become active, acquire enzymatic or esterase activity, react in particular sequence and cause damage to the neighbouring cells. This review discusses about the dysbiotic transformation of the periodontal pathogens that lead to destructive mechanism and loss of periodontal bone support.

Abstract

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a veryreal and growing problem, as indicated by demographic trends. Presence of undiagnosed periodontitis may have significant effect on the medical management of CKD patient as its been found to contribute to systemic inflammatory burden.This study evaluate and compare the periodontal status and IL-6 levels among CKD, periodontitis and Healthy patients.

Materials and Method: Whole serum samples werecollected from 80 patients who were further divided into four groups; healthy (n=20), periodontitis (n=20), HD (n=20), PD (n=20). Serum IL-6 concentrations were determined by Standard enzyme -linked immunosorbent assay.

Results: Indicates the IL-6 levels in the studypopulation. The mean IL-6 value being highest in pre-dialysis (92.695) compared to dialysis (53.112), periodontitis (9.22) and healthy individuals (9.6). ANOVA results show a significant increase of IL-6 levels in the pre-dialysis group compared to alter groups. No significant change on PPD was appreciated.

Conclusion: Treatment of moderate to severeperiodontitis in ESRD populations will result in decreased IL-6 levels and, more importantly, decreased incidence of atherosclerotic complications awaits the result of interceptive clinical trials in this population

Abstract

Fibroma is a benign tumor in which fibroblasts proliferate to form neoplasia, resulting in an increase in collagen fibers. Many of the fibroma-like lesions seen in the oral mucosa represent reparative or reactive hyperplasia of fibrous tissue against chronic irritation, and true neoplastic lesions are considered rare. Peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF) is a non-neoplastic, reactive lesion of gingiva. The precise etiopathogenesis of POF is unclear. However, it is suggested to originate from the connective tissue of periodontal ligament. This lesion predominantly occurs in the maxillary anterior region. The treatment protocol involves surgical excision followed by the biopsy of lesion. The high recurrence rate of the lesion is due to its reactive nature and unpredictable course. Hence proper postoperative monitoring and follow-up of the lesion are necessary. The present case was surgically managed and did not show any sign of recurrence during the follow-up period of 7 months.
